DESCRIPTION: APW - Illinois, Illini, 23J, 12S, 14K gold OF original case, refinished metal dial, SW-SS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel, wheel satin nickel finish, s#2935041. Gross weight of assembled watch 36.1 dwt (56.1 g). The Illini is notably rare in this 23 jewel version with only 200 total examples produced. Our consignor notes that in his close study of this grade's production and of known surviving examples, only a small fraction appear to be extant as he has only encountered 21 known examples. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, crown needs a bit of downward pressure when winding to avoid slipping out of engagement, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some mild toning and micro-fine scratches to plates, slight oxide to regulator spring; refinished dial with some darkening of perimeter, few mild surface marks within visible portion; excellent hands, minute with finish loss to tip and portion of adjacent circle; case shows light wear, ding to band at 7, few scattered small nicks, rear with some play at hinge; tight bow, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
